What's Happening on the Course

General Club Noticeboard : What's Happening on the Course

Week commencing 18th February we will hollow core the greens. Getting this vital work done early will help to produce top quality greens in time for the playing season.

The major work needed to level and reseed the 15th fairway is now complete, and the new grass is certainly starting to show. A final top dressing will be applied in early Spring and the fairway re-opened for the 2013 golf season. The hole has been converted to a good Par 3, and for qualifying competitions the Par and SSS have been reduced by 1 shot.

Work has been completed to drain holes 7,11,12,13,14  and 16. Our drainage company Sheltons with the help of our highly skilled greenstaff got the work done in fantastic time and in time we will undoubtably see its benefits for many years to come.  If your ball comes to rest in a drainage channel please treat it as 'Ground Under Repair' and relief MUST be taken.

A new pond, which was in the original course design, has been created as an integral part of the drainage for the 13th hole. The area in question has always been a wet area on the course and the new feature pond will no doubt enhance the drainage of the 13th hole.  It also gives us something that we do not have at Kenwick Park and that is a 'risk and reward' par 5.  Fortune will certainly favour the brave!  We are making other minor alterations to the 13th hole in relation to the new pond.  The ditch that crosses the fairway some 120 yards from the green will be culverted to improve the lay up area as well as the fairway being widened down the left hand side adjacent to the new pond.

The Golf Club Committee approved the filling of the bunkers on the 7th and 11th holes. These bunkers severely penalised the higher handicap golfers whilst not really bothering the better player. This will reduce maintenance and improve speed of play.
